GBCompetitive fixed interest rates and no fees Initially chosen as they offered mortgages for shared ownership properties. Good customer service etc and competitive low fixed interest rate with no fees for my first mortgage. Have recently used them again to borrow more to buy outright (due to council sell off to clear some of the national debt). Again, fixed interest rates were comparable with other leading well known/accredited British banks such as NatWest and therefore chose to continue to use them, as it was alot simpler to add on top of what I've already borrowed (minimal documents as British national citizen and quick decision tree call to confirm with approval certificate) rather than start afresh with some other company. I manage my mortgage online and have also found the telephone customer service good. The recent merger with Virgin money, one of the small number of home grown, respected, hard working, British billionaire business tycoons is also encouraging. I like my well earned British money to pay back into national British companies. Ultimately, I recommend using Nationwide for mortgages.

GBThank you Beth! Beth at Nationwide has been an absolute STAR. We had some previous issues with the payment for a surveyor going through and Beth was so attentive and even got our mortgage application accepted WITHIN A WEEK!! We have recently been struggling with a slow solicitor and Beth has helped us to chase things up and has been replying to me outside of working hours. Give this woman a raise!!

GBVery poor experience - 9 weeks and still no outcome Very poor experience . It’s been 9 ( nine) weeks and we still haven’t got an outcome . It started with redundant and repetitive questions from the underwriters that needed 5 working days to each time to review the answer . It continued with an inexperienced surveyor that asked for structural engineer report that I had to pay . Only trivial cracks .( for comparison another lender that I got the mortgage from did a desktop valuation ). The report took 10 days to be reviewed . When we thought everything is ready they asked for proof of visa that we had sent 9 weeks before . We decided to go to another lender and got the mortgage offer within 2 weeks . Very disappointed with Nationwide - inefficient and time consuming communication systems and procedures . Avoid .
