Pulling Teeth Without the Fun I adopted my Dogs at the local humane society and they were pushing MetLife Pet insurance with their welcome packet. I knew insurance was a good idea so I got a decent plan and thought I was good. Wrong, filing anything and trying to get a correct "Explanation of Benefits" where they detail how they "honor" your vet charges is like pulling teeth. Had a scare on the first week where one dog decided to eat a leather toy at night and had an ER trip and the filing was awful. I gave the entire adoption history with the vet notes and they denied the claim because I was missing 6 years of medical history on a dog I adopted 2 weeks ago. Not to mention the company is setup so you cant actually contact anyone on the claims team who could simply correct the the fumbled information, you have to contact a dedicated customer service rep. who can email the claims team for you and "contact" you in a week when they hear back or you have to fill out an appeal form that has your vets signature and stamp on it (yes a stamp.) Sure, one time would be bad but its like the claims team is either toddlers or is in India because they cant report the right vet visit dates or read the receipts that say what the vet has or has not prescribed. I think they have fallen to a new level of dysfunction and I'm joining a new company at the end of my plan. PET OWNERS BEWARE 2024.

I've had MetLife for a year and a half & I'm appalled by the bad reviews, reminds me of paid hacks posting negative reviews on Yelp I've had MetLife for a year and a half. Every claim has been paid, the longest I've had to wait was 2 weeks. They pay for all parasite % heartworm preventatives, with wellness they pay 100% of vet visits and they pay what the vet charges, not some silly limit like $150 for a spay/neuter that you see with some companies. I'm not sure why all the negative reviews but I can't believe they have gotten that many complaints, they have been great!

I was worried when I saw the negative… I was worried when I saw the negative reviews here, but my experience was fortunately the exact opposite! My cat had to have an emergency exploratory surgery. My claim was processed and I was paid in less that two weeks. I am very pleased so far with this company and I plan to keep my cat's policy with them.

NOT RECOMMENDED by this veterinarian! I am a veterinarian with coverage for 3 dogs and 3 cats through this business. I used to recommend them to everyone when they were PetFirst. After they were bought out by MetLife, things got much worse. They denied coverage for medications for my dog with congestive heart failure-- because my boss has been refilling them! Apparenly, their definition of "business partner" now includes anyone in your own practice. I am now having to go to a different practice, pay full price up front for visits, medications, etc, and then send them in. If nothing else, I was saving them quite a bit with my employee discount! Remember, if they'll do this to me, a veterinarian with a decade long set of policies who has recommended them hundreds of times to clients, what will they do to you?? Please use Trupanion instead.

Don't care about your fur babies just your money I reached out to ask questions before buying a plan for my dog. Had to take my dog to the emergency animal hospital because he hurt himself jumping off the couch. $1100 in vet bills and $42 for the insurance later and they denied my claim saying it was pre existing.. Horrible company low down and dirty.
