Federal and State were relatively easy Federal and State were relatively easy. The app alluded that my W-2 was there and uploaded, but it was not. No problem; I manually put in the info. I'm an Ohio resident. It required me to add an additional State to cover the school district requirements of the school district code. Very confusing, but I did. Then when I did my state return, it prompted me for the school district information anyway. I used Turbo Tax for years, but got AUDITED every year!! Thank you TaxSlayer!! You are the best!!

Prompted steps are easy to follow It was easy and felt comprehensive to go through the steps this year. I remember it being more difficult last year but the process has either been improved or I simply found it easier to follow this time. My one issue is that I wanted to double check the amounts I had put in for my state taxes and I didn't find an easy way to go back to do that.

Sneaky charges The service worked well enough and was easy to use but the sneaky charges are a big problem! I was not informed until I had already completed my taxes that there were aspects of my tax return that required I pay a fee. I thought taxslayer was better than Intuit in terms of being transparent about fees but it turns out tax slayer does the same sneaky stuff.

Solid tax filing software at a reasonable cost I found TaxSlayer’s online tax filing software to be straightforward and useful. It picked up several of my errors, saving me trouble down the road. I had 2 questions which were responded to within 24 hours over the weekend. The cost was quite reasonable.
