About North Coast Hip-Hop Improv

With a cast of improv comedy veterans in New York City, North Coast’s explosive performances have been packing comedy venues, universities, and festivals nationwide since 2009. Built around a single suggestion from an audience member, the show’s improvised scenes escalate into full-blown hip-hop songs, facilitated by resident beatboxer, Doctor Brick. With their seamless melding of comedic timing and freestyle rapping abilities, North Coast frequently blurs the line between comedy show and concert, drawing audiences from the comedy, hip-hop, and theater communities for an experience that has been hailed as “mind-blowing” and “next level” by critics and audiences alike. Named one of the “Top Ten Best Comedy Shows” by Time Out New York, North Coast has been featured on Vh1, in Slate’s Podcast The Gist, The Village Voice, and The New York Times Comedy Listings. An unbeatable improv experience North Coast were one of the first shows I saw in NYC and to this day I believe they are the best Improv ensemble around. They also teach you how it's done. Seriously, go take their classes. You will not regret it!

Hip Hop 101 with Northcoast is AWESOME North-coast’s Hip-Hop Improv 101 is one of the most fun classes I have taken in my entire life! I had taken quite a few improv classes before, but the incorporation of freestyle rap into improv takes it to a whole new creative level. The energy of the class is amazing! I had both Doug and RJ as instructors and they were phenomenal. They made use newcomers feel safe and confident while also motivating us to improve at our craft. I am definitely returning to a Level 2 class as soon as one fits my schedule. I legit want to be in the Northcoast NYC troupe one day after that experience!

3rd show- 10/10 I recently have had my 3rd partnership with North Coast at different organizations and I've been continously impressed by them! This time around I was more heavily involved in the planning phase and was blown away at how they personalized the show for the audience and occasion we were celebrating including utilizing our physical product, wearing the color of our theme and leaning into personal insights we gave them about folks on our team. 10/10 recommend!
