About North Coast Hip-Hop Improv

With a cast of improv comedy veterans in New York City, North Coast’s explosive performances have been packing comedy venues, universities, and festivals nationwide since 2009. Built around a single suggestion from an audience member, the show’s improvised scenes escalate into full-blown hip-hop songs, facilitated by resident beatboxer, Doctor Brick. With their seamless melding of comedic timing and freestyle rapping abilities, North Coast frequently blurs the line between comedy show and concert, drawing audiences from the comedy, hip-hop, and theater communities for an experience that has been hailed as “mind-blowing” and “next level” by critics and audiences alike. Named one of the “Top Ten Best Comedy Shows” by Time Out New York, North Coast has been featured on Vh1, in Slate’s Podcast The Gist, The Village Voice, and The New York Times Comedy Listings. Hip Hop 101 with Northcoast is AWESOME North-coast’s Hip-Hop Improv 101 is one of the most fun classes I have taken in my entire life! I had taken quite a few improv classes before, but the incorporation of freestyle rap into improv takes it to a whole new creative level. The energy of the class is amazing! I had both Doug and RJ as instructors and they were phenomenal. They made use newcomers feel safe and confident while also motivating us to improve at our craft. I am definitely returning to a Level 2 class as soon as one fits my schedule. I legit want to be in the Northcoast NYC troupe one day after that experience!

North Coast is the pinnacle in terms of… North Coast is the pinnacle in terms of a mind-blowing, musical improv, rapping and beatbox like you've never heard it experience. As both a theater director/booker and performer myself, I'm always overjoyed both too book and watch North Coast slay the stage. Their workshops are incredible as well for anyone that wants to learn the magic they do!

Entertain and personalized The North Coast team entertained a group of business executives whom I was hosting in NYC. The North Coast crew researched every exec, and worked their stories into a hilarious welcoming rap. They then improvised a few more numbers based on prompts from the group. The North Coast team were very creative, amazingly quick, side-splittingly funny, and they gave my guests a uniquely New York experience. I highly recommend them!

North Coast Improv is amazing! North Coast Improv is a most extraordinary group of brilliantly hilarious and wildly talented performers. Their quick witted imaginative humor is wonderfully entertaining, it often leaves me dumbstruck at how fast their collective minds work in sync to such amazing comical result. Go see them! Run, don't walk! You will be smiling all the way home!
