IDEA provides great conferences and … IDEA provides great conferences and tools for trainers. However, I feel the organization is just beginning to embrace the importance of inclusiveness and body positivity. The cover article in the February 2018 issue of Fitness Journal is a call for change, which shows that good intentions are there; but the representative artwork and imagery focus on white women in a higher weight range. Body image is an issue for people of all sizes, not just those of higher weight. Food is demonized in the image of an articulated mannequin with a glazed donut around its middle, the message being that body size is a reflection of what is eaten, which we know to be untrue. Clearly, the editors have a long way to go toward understanding the deeper meaning and implications of body image and body positivity, for trainers and clients alike.

Worth joining From the magazine subscription to keeping updated on fitness trends, they do a fantastic job. I do question the supposed clients that are sent immediately your way as soon as you join, as they are wait outside my service area and seem to never reply. Sorry, but it does not seem genuine and that someone is manipulating new members into believing these are valid contacts.

Do Not Trust These People with Your Credit Card Their membership fee went from $60-something dollars to $290 CDN. I was not aware of this change. They said they had notified me through e-mail 2x (oh yeah, as if that's reliable . . . ). When I appealed to them twice, they would not give me back my money. They can keep the money, but they have lost a customer, and even though they charged me, I will not be using any of their forced membership benefits. I don't care for their magazine anymore either.
