About Solar-Estimate.org

Solar-Estimate.org exists to provide an easy-to-use ballpark solar estimator so that homeowners can get a rough idea of the solar potential of their home before deciding if they want to talk to a solar company. Our calculator automatically places panels on your roof and adjusts the production estimate to the tilt angle, azimuth and shading of the best location for each array of panels on your roof. At the time of writing (December 2019) no other consumer website can do this. The only other place such accurate functionality is available is in professional solar design software used by solar companies. Our solar calculator also uses EIA and Genability electric use profiling for each region of the United States to estimate what your electricity use pattern looks like over the course of a day and over the seasons of the year. It then maps that hour by hour over the generation pattern from the proposed solar array. As such it is the only free online solar panel calculator that properly accounts for the effects of time of use billing on solar savings. Most online solar panel calculators just estimate annual usage and production, ignore this complexity and give inaccurate results. This last point is particularly important in California where all residential customers are now on time of use electric billing, making the times of the day you use power and the times of day you generate power critical to your solar savings analysis.

Easy to use and they do provide a ball… Easy to use and they do provide a ball park cost estimate. You will get text messages and calls from local providers. I had 2 responses. One via text messages that went back and forth for a few minutes. The other a phone call that I ended up agreeing to a meeting. Mostly I just wanted a ball park cost estimate and I got that right from the initial website.

A good questionnaire made available to…worth your time A good questionnaire made available to solar companies. 4 days later we’ve had an interview with an established dealer and have decided to use them for an installation.

Didn’t finish I clicked on the link and answered the questions out of curiosity. Since we aren’t thinking of solar for a few years yet, I didn’t finish to have someone call or come out. The site seemed pretty good though.

Quick and easy Took very little time to get an estimate of different costs and sizes for an installation. Very quick and informative.

Too much info required for a ballpark figure It seems reputable, but it’s only an info gathering / marketing website for other contractors. They want too much personal information just to give a ballpark figure. Not worth all that, so in the end it was just a way to get your info.
